Poland will hand over four MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine in the next few days. The remaining planes are serviced and prepared for dispatch.
The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, stated this at a press conference after a meeting with the President of the Czech Republic, reports Rzeczpospolita. "In the coming days, we are handing over four aircraft to Ukraine in full working condition. The rest of the planes are being serviced and prepared," he said, without specifying the number of MiG-29s to be transferred to Ukraine.
According to Duda, Poland still has "dozens of MiG-29s" received in the early 90s from the army of German Democratic Republic (GDR).
To replace the MiGs, the Polish army will receive new FA-50s from South Korea, the first deliveries are expected in late 2023. Subsequently, squadrons of F-35s are expected.
"In the coming years, all this resource [combat aviation] will be replenished, modernized, but we will also have additional air forces in the form of ultramodern fighters," Andrzej Duda said.
