"Not everything is so simple": expert reveals how Ukraine can further weaken Russian missile carriers in Black Sea

Expert explains how Ukraine can weaken Russian missile carriers in Black Sea

Modern Western aviation can help Ukraine further weaken the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. In particular, F-16 fighters can be used to attack enemy ships with high-quality guided missiles.

In addition, Ukraine needs to develop domestic missile systems. This was stated by war veteran, civic activist, and lawyer Oleh Symoroz in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA.

According to him, the Ukrainian Neptune missile was developed specifically to destroy ships. New modern UAVs can also help. At the same time, Symoroz emphasized that drones are not really that effective at sea because they are easy to spot.

He also added that airplanes are one of the best options for defeating Russian missile carriers at sea. Symoroz emphasized that the F-16 fighter jet can carry a whole variety of completely different missiles - short, medium and long-range.

"This is where it can be really interesting. If we successfully use the F-16 somewhere in the Odesa region and fire high-quality Western guided missiles that are modified specifically against ships, I think we can significantly weaken Russian missile carriers," the expert said.

At the same time, he warned that the enemy uses long-range missile launchers with a range of more than a thousand kilometers, so the issue of destroying ships is not so simple. The occupiers are trying to keep away from Ukrainian territory. After the destruction of the Moskva missile cruiser, the invaders are now afraid to come close to Ukrainian territory.

"It has its own specifics, but I think our aviation, the development of the missile program, and new missiles will do the trick. Although we can really do something with the same Storm Shadow missile. Recently, we have been sinking Russian ships with the help of sea drones, which have also shown their effectiveness. But as for the missile carriers, the enemy is very cautious," noted Symoroz.

As a reminder, on July 31, Bloomberg reported that the first batch of long-awaited F-16 fighter jets from NATO allies had arrived in Ukraine. The number of delivered aircraft is allegedly small.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry said it would not officially confirm this information. They explained that this is a "factor of essential survival," so there is no need to say for sure whether we have these jets. Reports of the alleged arrival of F-16s have not yet been confirmed in the United States either.

As reported, the Russian army has already deployed Buk SAM in the temporarily occupied Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region to hunt for F-16s.
