New satellite images show Russia moved more than a dozen attack helicopters to Kursk airfield
Russians have sent a large number of combat aircraft to the Kursk airfield. The airfield is located a few kilometers from the eponymous center of the Russian region.
Sky News writes about this. The publication analyzed satellite images before the beginning of the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region and ones made on August 14.
Thus, the satellite photo of the airfield from July 22 shows that until recently there was no accumulation of Russian combat aircraft. This image shows only two helicopters and five fighter jets.
And photos taken on August 14 already show a radically different picture. This time you can clearly see 14 helicopters parked along the airport.
Four fighter jets, which are in the same locations as in July, are also visible.
"There has been a huge increase in the number of helicopters, from two Mi-24/35 Hind or Mi-8/17 Hip helicopters in July to fourteen in August, including possible three Ka-52 Alligator helicopters," said Justin Bronk, a specialist at the Royal United Services Institute.
While the satellite photos are not detailed enough to determine the exact models of the helicopters, they demonstrate that significant resources have recently been allocated for the airfield.
The publication suggests that the accumulation of combat aircraft is part of the Russian response to the operation of Ukrainian defenders in the Kursk region.
As reported, Russia is transferring its troops from some parts of the front to the Kursk region. Because of the Ukrainian operation in the Russian region, Putin is facing a dilemma.
