ISW: Defense forces managed to advance near Bakhmut, counteroffensive continues on three sections of the front

The Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted counter-offensive operations on at least three sections of the front over the past 24 hours. They managed to advance near Bakhmut in Donetsk Region.

This is stated in the analysis of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). It is noted that according to the Ukrainian military command, our troops continue the offensive on the northern and southern flanks of Bakhmut. At the same time, a Russian military blogger confirmed that Ukrainian troops had advanced in the area of Kurdyumivka and Andriivka the day before.

Russians also claimed that Ukrainian forces continued ground attacks along the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions near Staromaiorske (9 km south of Velyka Novosilka) and Urozhaine (9 km south of Velyka Novosilka). Some bloggers admitted that Ukrainian forces captured Staromaiorske on July 27.

Russian "war correspondents" claimed that the occupants' forces repelled attacks by Ukrainian ground troops near the settlements of Robotyno (10 km south of Orikhiv), Verbove (17 km southeast of Orikhiv) and Piatykhatky (25 km southwest of Orikhiv) in the west of Zaporizhzhia Region.

At the same time, the commander of Russia's Vostok battalion Alexander Khodakovsky said that Ukrainian forces can strike the entire depth of the defending Russian forces, than eliminate the commanders of the occupation forces and humiliate the Russian command and control.

The AFU General Staff reported that the 247th Guards Airborne Assault (VDV) Regiment (7th Airborne Division) refused to go into battle near Staromaiorske due to heavy losses of the Russians and victories of the Ukrainians on the battlefield. The report also noted that Ukrainian troops continue their offensive in the territories temporarily occupied by the Russians. They are actively advancing in Zaporizhzhia direction, particularly near Melitopol and Berdiansk.. The defense forces are consolidating on the achieved borders, inflicting artillery fire on the identified enemy targets and implementing measures of counter-battery warfare.

Moreover, the AFU fighters liberated the village of Staromaiorske from Russian occupants  in Donetsk region during the counter-offensive operation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Deputy Defense Minister Anna Maliar have already confirmed the liberation of this settlement. This was possible thanks to the effective actions of the personnel of the 35th Independent Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradsky together with their fellow soldiers from the "AREY" 7th Independent Battalion of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army.

- Commander of the "Tavria" Operational-Strategic Grouping of troops Oleksandr Tarnavsky said that the AFU continue to knock out the Russian troops in the Tavria direction. The Defense Forces are inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy and are having partial success;

- Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that the occupation troops of Russia densely mined the territories they had occupied for a while. Other territories, on which Ukrainian Defense Forces are conducting a counterattack, have about two to four mine per square meter.
