"Influence of gravity": In the Air Force, they explained why even downed missiles cause destruction

Why do even downed missiles damage infrastructure?

The effective work of the Ukrainian air defense on the night of December 13 in Kyiv did not allow the occupiers to achieve their goal - all enemy ballistic missiles were shot down. However, enemy missiles can cause considerable damage when they fall, and there are irresistible forces at work here: the law of gravity.

Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, shared this information in an interview with NV. He emphasized that the consequences of falling debris can vary.

"Debris will never disappear from the airspace and will simply fall under the influence of Earth's gravity. They can be different: light, heavy, and sometimes even a missile warhead that did not explode when it collided with the targeted missile. Consequently, it falls down and can cause craters or simply ignite ordinary houses and premises," the military emphasized.

Thus, according to Ihnat, Ukrainians should be careful and not leave their shelters during the air raid alarm.

As a reminder, as a result of the night attack on Kyiv, a fragment of a downed Russian missile damaged several buildings in the Urban Park residential complex. Experts are inspecting the buildings to identify all the damage and calculate the losses.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night attack of December 13, the alert in Kyiv and the region was announced after the first explosions. This was due to the fact that ballistic missiles fly very fast, and air defense forces have a few minutes to respond to the threat and destroy the targets.
