Germany will start supplying Ukraine with AI-equipped Helsing kamikaze drones: they are called mini-Taurus

Germany will soon start handing over the latest Helsing kamikaze drones equipped with artificial intelligence to Ukraine. These drones are called "mini-Taurus" because of their functionality and range.

This was reported by Bild. Helsing is a kamikaze drone with a high level of autonomy, designed to operate effectively in conditions of electronic warfare (EW).

Thanks to modern software, they are able to "navigate" the terrain using various markers, which allows them to reach targets even in difficult conditions – during bad weather, on scorched earth, or when they lose contact with the operator.

The drone can identify targets on its own, but it requires operator confirmation to launch an attack. If the connection with the operator is lost, the drone will complete the task autonomously.

Helsing has a flight range 4 times longer than that of typical Ukrainian kamikaze drones. They are also significantly cheaper than the American Switchblade, Russian Zala, and Lancet.

According to Bild, about 4,000 of these drones have been ordered for Ukraine. Starting in December, the drones are expected to arrive in batches of several hundred per month. Some prototypes are already being tested in real combat conditions in eastern Ukraine.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed the start of deliveries, noting that he was "very pleased that the delivery of these AI-equipped drones is already underway." According to him, Ukraine will be able to use them against important enemy targets such as command posts.

To recap, the Bundestag may put to a vote the issue of providing Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles. This possibility is being considered by members of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP), which left the coalition.

However, according to the Tagesspiegel article, even if the issue of the missile transfer were approved by the majority in parliament, it would still have no practical consequences, because the decision to deliver weapons is made not by the Bundestag, but by the Security Council of the federal government. It is chaired by Chancellor Scholz, and he is categorically against providing Ukraine with Taurus.

He recently reiterated that Berlin's assistance to Kyiv should not lead to further "escalation" in the war with Russia.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier approved the schedule of early parliamentary elections, which was previously agreed by the main parties represented in the Bundestag. According to it, the German parliamentary elections are to be held at the end of February 2025.
