At Ramstein, Zelenskyy told whether there is a threat of a Russian offensive on Sumy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there is currently no threat of a Russian offensive on the city of Sumy. This threat was averted due to the actions of the Ukrainian military.
According to him, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was planning a new offensive from the Kursk region to Sumy, but Ukrainian forces changed the course of events. Zelenskyy said this at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense in the Ramstein format.
"Thanks to our actions, there is no threat that Russia will launch a new offensive on our territory against the city of Sumy, as it was in May when Putin launched an offensive against our city of Kharkiv," the head of state said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the overall situation in the war has also changed due to the actions of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. He noted that Putin has revealed his true interest – not in defending Russia, but in seeking to occupy Ukraine. The Russian leader does not care about his own land or people, his goal is to seize as many Ukrainian territories and cities as possible.
The president also said that during the month of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Kursk region, Russia lost 6,000 of its military in killed and wounded. Currently, Ukrainian defenders control more than 1300 square kilometers of territory there, including more than a hundred settlements.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the operation of the Defense Forces in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation a preventive step. He noted that the enemy was planning to break through the Ukrainian border in Sumy region, and if this had happened, it could have taken a long time to oust the occupiers.
