"You want to take away our victories": Lukashenko claims conspiracy in world sport against Russia and Belarus

The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, called the suspension of athletes from aggressor countries from international competitions an attempt to "eliminate strong competitors". The dictator repeated Kremlin propaganda narratives about the so-called traditional values cultivated by Belarus and Russia.

Lukashenko said this at the opening of the CIS Games in Minsk, RIA Novosti news agency reports. Representatives of 22 countries are taking part in the competition, the level of which has already been ridiculed online, and the head of Belarus expressed confidence that the world's attention is focused on them.

"No matter how hard the world's rulers try to make it look like they are angry but powerless, I am convinced that they are seeing us now. Watch, listen, draw conclusions. You are trying to eliminate strong competitors from international sport. You want to take away our sporting victories. You are killing the spirit and meaning of the Olympic movement. This is a sign of weakness and fear. It is an attempt to hide behind an iron curtain from the truth of life. This is a recognition of the strength of our deep values, which are shared by the vast majority of people on the planet, including ordinary Europeans and Americans," Lukashenko said.

Earlier, legendary Olympic champion Dominik Hasek accused the National Hockey League (NHL) of disrespecting Ukraine.
