Famous Russian tennis player Liudmila Samsonova has admitted that 90% of Ukrainian players do not greet her. The 24-year-old native of the Murmansk region played for Italy from the age of sixteen to eighteen.

According to the world No. 16, she herself has experienced pressure in her time, so she is not confused by the attitude of Ukrainians.

"It's understandable because their country is being bombed. But I believe that sport and politics should be separated. After all, we are human beings and we are just playing sports. Moreover, I and many other Russian tennis players do not live in Russia," sportface.it quoted the athlete as saying.

Samsonova said she puts herself in the shoes of Ukrainian tennis players and understands how difficult it can be for them.

"We tried to use tennis to unite, at that time we offered a lot to the WTA and ATP, and all the offers were rejected. There's a lot of hatred around, but I don't blame them," the Russian No. 3 concluded.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, on April 26, Elina Svitolina (No. 1088 in the WTA rankings) refused to shake hands with Alexandra Sasnovich (No. 47 in the WTA rankings) after her defeat by Belarus' Alexandra Sasnovich.
