Ukrainian tennis player Yulia Starodubtseva (No. 160) shakes hands with Russian Amina Anshba (No. 91) after winning the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 doubles tournament in Chile. The 23-year-old native of Kakhovka, playing alongside American Makena Jones, defeated the duo of Anszba/Panna Udvardi (Hungary) with a score of 6:7(1), 7:5, 10:3.

After playing the final game of the match, all the tennis players on the court in Kolin shook hands, and the Ukrainian did the same.

In an interview with BTU, Yulia admitted that she did not know that Amina had a Russian passport.

"I didn't know she was Russian until she said 'thank you' to me while shaking hands. And then I was hoping maybe it was Kazakhstan. Amina Anshba just doesn't sound like a Russian name, and I don't know many people yet. This is the first time I've seen her. I'm just in my repertoire - I don't know anything, neither the players nor the WTA rules sometimes. If I had known who she was, I certainly wouldn't have shaken hands. Moreover, I am shocked that she is under sanctions. Honestly, this is the first time I've heard about her. I will be more careful," Starodubtseva said.

It should be noted that the 24-year-old Muscovite once liked a post by propagandist Margarita Simonyan in which she justified the war in Ukraine.

On April 5, Anshbe was added to Ukraine's sanctions list.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Starodubtseva/Jones lost to the pair of Julia Logoff (Germany) and Connie Perrin (Switzerland) in the semifinals of the Chilean tournament - 2:6 and 2:6.
