On 1 June, representatives of the New York Mets, an American baseball club that plays in the Eastern Division of the Major League Baseball (MLB), held an event dedicated to Eastern European culture to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Ukraine. In total, about 4,700 people came to the Brooklyn Cyclones Maimonides Park stadium. Among them were more than 1,000 Ukrainians.

In total, 18 foundations, organisations and services were present to help people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in New York.

Attendees honoured US Army and Navy officers, Ukrainian soldiers, New York City police officers of Eastern European descent, and dozens of humanitarian volunteers.

At the end of Eastern Europe Day, the world's largest Ukrainian flag was unfurled on the field.

"This symbolic gesture signalled unity, pride and support for Ukraine and made a lasting impression on all those present," wbsceurope.org reports.

One of the participants, Oksana Sydorchak, posted a video of the event on her Instagarm.

When the event was over, the audience staged an impromptu competition to see which side, yellow or blue, would roll the flag faster. The yellow team won.
