In the new Champions League season, Shakhtar Donetsk will play against German Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Italian Atalanta and Bologna, as well as Dutch PSV, Swiss Young Boys and French Brest. The draw for the main stage took place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Starting from the new season, the European Football Union (UEFA) has significantly changed the format of the Champions League. Currently, the number of participants has increased from 32 to 36, and teams are not divided into different groups. The results will be recorded in the general table, and the results of the eight rounds will determine the participants of the 1/8 finals (1-8 places) and head-to-head matches (9-24 places).
Each team will play eight matches against eight different opponents - four at home and four away. Before the ceremony, the 36 participants were divided into four baskets, and a computer was used to determine the pairings, as a manual procedure would have required 1000 balls.
