The International Skating Union (ISU) refused to publish a photo of Anastasia Gubanova in its announcement for the European Figure Skating Championships, which will take place on January 10-13 in Kaunas, Lithuania. The 21-year-old native of Togliatti is the reigning winner of the continental championship.

Instead of the figure skater, who has been playing for Georgia since 2021, the ISU posted a picture of the 2023 European Championships vice-champion Luna Hendricks (silver medalist).

This "cancellation of Russia" caused hysteria among Russian coach Tatyana Tarasova.

"Gubanova won the European Championships last year, but they didn't publish it in the announcement. This is just disrespectful to the Russian people! The ISU has no right to do this, it simply has no right," Tarasova said.

After a while, ISU changed the tweet to add Gubanova.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, a high-profile scandal has broken out in Russian figure skating. Russian figure skater Yelena Kostornaya owes a large sum of money to the designer of her costumes. The 2020 European champion was threatened with a lawsuit for failing to fulfill her contractual obligations, while the athlete herself sees no fault.
