IOC allows a world record holder from Moscow, who supported Ukraine, to attend the Olympics

Famous Russian cyclist Mikhail Yakovlev, the current world record holder in sprinting, has received permission from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete at the 2024 Games for his new country, eliminating the need for him to undergo a 3-year quarantine. The 23-year-old Muscovite, who won Russia's first-ever medal in men's keirin in 2021, received an Israeli passport in early August 2023.

The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. According to the rules of the Olympic Games, an athlete can represent a new country at the Olympics only if at least 3 years have passed since the athlete's last participation for the previous national team.

In addition to Yakovlev, Valeria Lyubimova, bronze medalist of the 2021 World Cycling Championships (keirin), and wrestler Gergy Tibilov, who finished third at the 2023 World Cup and European Championships, have also been granted admission to the 2023 Olympics. Lyubimova will represent France, and Tibilov will represent Serbia.
