Russia is shocked by this decision

The European Handball Federation (EHF) has deprived Russia of the right to host the 2026 European Women's Championship. The decision was made at a meeting of the EHF Executive Committee, the organisation said in a press release.

The continental championship was awarded to Russia in November 2021. After the EHF meeting, consultations were held with the Russian Handball Federation (RHF). It was decided to look for an alternative host.

"For the entire Russian sports and handball community, this decision is very difficult, because a lot of work has been done to get the right to organise the tournament. We hope for the understanding of the handball fans," the FGR website said.

In their comments, Russian fans pointed out that the international community does not expect the war to end before 2026, and sarcastically "thanked" their main "geostrategist" who leads the country.
