Badosa withdraws from match against Kostiuk

For the first time in her career, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostiuk has reached the third round of the Wimbledon Open. The 21-year-old from Kyiv achieved this right by defeating former world number two Paula Badosa of Spain, who gave up in the second set.

The girls' match lasted only 36 minutes. Kostiuk won the first set 6-2, and in the second game at 0-1, the Spaniard decided to retire from the match. The Ukrainian served out once, converted four out of eight break points, and won six active games.

Marta recorded two double faults and six unforced errors. It is worth noting that Badosa missed most of this season due to various injuries. At the same time, the girl paid attention to her personal life, starting a romantic relationship with Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas

Kostiuk will compete for a ticket to the 1/8 finals of Wimbledon 2023 with the 18th world number one Madison Keys of the United States. This confrontation will be the first for tennis players in history.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, for the first time in the history of Wimbledon, four Ukrainian tennis players made it to the third round of the competition.
