Shakhtar's goalkeeper suspends career to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Shakhtar Donetsk U-19 goalkeeper Volodymyr Seheda has changed his goalkeeper's gloves to a pixelated shape. The 18-year-old youth team player has decided to suspend his football career to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Terrikon reports.

According to media reports, Volodymyr is already at one of the Armed Forces' training centres, where he is preparing for service.

Born in Luhansk, Volodymyr has been involved in various sports since childhood, including diving, volleyball and football. After the outbreak of the war in 2014, he moved to Sumy with his family, trained at Barca Sumy and then at FC Dnipro, where he managed to attract the attention of Shakhtar.

At the Shakhtar academy, he proved to be a brave and courageous goalkeeper and was involved in the U-19 team. After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he was evacuated to Croatia along with his academy partners. However, he soon made a conscious decision to return to Ukraine to join the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"I thought about it for a long time and decided to return to Ukraine. I just can't sit idly by while my country is at war. I never thought about becoming a soldier, but now my homeland needs me. Playing football is my lifelong dream, and I'm not giving it up. After the Victory, I would like to return to football," says Volodymyr.
