Gassiev lost to Wallin

Famous Russian heavyweight Murat Gassiev (30-2-0-1, 23 KOs) suffered a sensational defeat against Swede Otto Wallin (26-1-0-1, 14 KOs) at a boxing night in Belek, Turkey. The 29-year-old native of Vladikavkaz lost by 12 rounds on the judges' scorecards with a score of 113:115, 113:115, 117:111.

Gassiev, as expected, worked as the number one and was charged for the knockout. Wallin chose the tactic of throwing a lot of punches, trying to keep his opponent at a distance. At the same time, the Swede was very successful in thwarting the attacks of the Russian boxer, who put his intercontinental title according to the World Boxing Association (WBA) on the line.

In the sixth round, Wallin caught the Russian with a counter hook and stunned him. Gassiev blocked it and was barely surviving, managing to make it to the bell.

In the 11th round, the representative of the aggressor country managed to pick up the pace and force his opponent to defend himself. Gassiev won the first three minutes, but in the final round he ran out of steam and Wallin began to work with a series of head and body punches.

As a result, two out of three judges gave the victory to the Swede. He took the Russian title and moved up to second place in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) rankings. For Gasiev, the defeat was the second in his career after the fiasco against Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) in the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Otto Wallin refused to shake hands with Murat Gassiev at the weigh-in ceremony before the championship fight.
