Scared of boycott: Russia demands sanctions against Romania for not letting Russian Olympic champion to participate in the World Wrestling Championships

Zhurova is outraged by Romania's actions

Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova demands that the organizers of the Continental Championship Wrestling in Romania be fined for refusing to allow Russian Abdulrashid Sadulaev to enter the country. The State Duma deputy expressed confidence that the Olympic gold medalist from Russia was prevented from crossing the state border by being turned away at customs on purpose.

Zhurova said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The winner of the 2006 Turin Games in speed skating was afraid that other countries would follow Romania's example and refuse to allow Russian athletes to compete.

"We need to understand that such situations can be consistent. Other countries can support Romania's decision and follow suit by not allowing Russian athletes to enter their country. It is necessary to contact the sports federation and, if possible, ask for a fine to be imposed because the country and the organizing committee did not provide an opportunity for an eligible athlete to participate in the competition. They hide behind safety standards, but in reality, everything is based on money," Zhurova said.

Earlier, Zhan Beleniuk won a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Bucharest, refusing to shake hands with a Russian and a Belarusian. Oleksandr Hrushyn, who became the vice-champion of the championship, did the same.
