The decisive match lasted more than 3 hours

Russia's top-ranked player Daniil Medvedev (ATP No. 3) lost in the Australian Open final to Yannick Sinner (ATP No. 4). The match in Melbourne lasted over three hours and ended with a score of 6:3, 6:3, 4:6, 4:6, 3:6.

The 22-year-old Italian won the Grand Slam for the first time in his career, becoming the youngest AO champion since 2008. Back then, 20-year-old Novak Djokovic took the title. For the victory, Sinner will receive $2.1 million, and all career prize money for all time amounted to $19.1 million. This is his 11th title.

The beginning of the match went well for Russia's best tennis player. The 27-year-old Muscovite easily took the first two sets, making a serious bid for victory. This apparent success relaxed the Russian. Sinner found his game, scoring points every time with powerful shots along the line.

The Russian was unable to counteract his opponent, losing three sets in a row without a chance. It was the third time in his career that Medvedev lost a match after leading 2-0.

In 2019, he lost to Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round of Roland Garros, and in 2022, he lost to Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australian Open.

Medvedev is the only player to lose a 2-0 set lead twice in Grand Slam finals.
