Russian U-20 footballer refused to play for Russia and changed his citizenship

Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder Konstantin Maradishvili has been granted Georgian citizenship, Georgian Footy reports citing the Georgian Football Federation vice-president. The 23-year-old Moscow native with Georgian roots played for the Russian youth national team.

Now FIFA must give Maradishvili permission to play for the Georgian national team.

Konstantin Maradishvili is a pupil of the capital club CSKA. In 2019, the footballer signed a professional contract with the club and in July of that year debuted in the basis of "Army men". In 2021, the midfielder moved to Lokomotiv Moscow, signing a 5-year contract.

This season, the midfielder has played for Lokomotiv in 3 matches, spending a total of 66 minutes on the pitch, scoring 1 goal.

In the summer of 2019, Maradishvili together with the Russian U-20 team took part in an international tournament in Spain, where his team reached the final.
