Russian Olympic champion who supported the war has his arms and legs amputated after going to the bathhouse

Roman Kostomarov, the 2016 Olympic figure skating champion, admitted that he became seriously ill after a bath in ice-cold water. On January 10, the 46-year-old titled athlete was hospitalized with pneumonia.

Kostomarov was connected to an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine for five days. As a result, the small vessels in his limbs were seriously damaged and tissue necrosis began. In February, Roman's legs and hands were amputated.

The two-time world champion, who used to perform ice dancing with the wife of Dmitry Peskov's press secretary, Tatyana Navka, told the Million Dollar Secret program how it really happened.

"On the 8th, I said: "I'm going to go and get together with the guys." We regularly went to the bathhouse, bathed in an ice-hole, jumped into the font. All this is health. It's likely that the effect of my illness and the "numbing" of it with painkillers weakened my immunity. I took a steam bath, got into the hole. Everything was fine. When I went home, I started coughing non-stop. I could not cough it up. I was coughing and coughing, coughing and coughing," Kostomarov recalled.

After the skater started to feel worse, he decided to see a doctor.

"My side started to hurt, I couldn't breathe. Something suspicious, I've never had anything like that before. We decided to call an ambulance. I thought that would be the end of it. They made smears, listened to me - everything was fine. But they said that I had to go to the hospital for an examination. I said: "Let's go". I remember a ward with a lot of people. I don't remember anything else," the Russian champion said.

On December 13 last year, Kostomarov was added to the sanctions list for supporting the war against Ukraine. On January 7, the relevant decree of the Verkhovna Rada was signed by Volodymyr Zelensky.

In response, Z-patriot said that he "doesn't care about the president of Ukraine".
