Russian Olympic champion says Ukrainians are leaving a "good family"

Mamiashvili spoke about Ukrainians

Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, spoke hypocritically about his relations with Ukrainians. In particular, commenting on Valentyn Bliasetsky's refusal to shake hands with the Russian representative at the World Cup in Serbia, the Olympic gold medalist pretended not to understand this act of our compatriot.

Mamiashvili said this in an interview with the Match TV propaganda TV channel. He spoke about the incredibly friendly atmosphere at the World Championships in the Serbian capital, adding that Ukrainian athletes "left this strong, courageous and kind family."

"There is a traditionally friendly wrestling atmosphere here at the World Championships. Unfortunately, our Ukrainian brothers are leaving this strong, courageous and kind family en masse. I hope it won't be for long, and we'll be back to shaking hands with them again. We have not left them. I am convinced that everything will end friendly. We will do sport together again and everyone will try to do their best for their country in a peaceful way," Mamiashvili said.

Earlier, he called the refusal of Ukrainian Valentyn Bliasetsky to shake hands with Russian representative Abasgadzhi Magomedov at the 2023 World Cup a "complete nonsense."

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the International Wrestling Federation (UWW) amended the rules for the 2023 World Championships due to the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian championship winner Vasyl Mykhailov refused to take a photo with a Russian at the award ceremony.
