The 2016 Olympic champion in figure skating Roman Kostomarov, who had both legs and hands amputated, appeared in public for the first time after the amputation of the feet. During Ilya Averbukh's Letters of Love gala show in Sochi, Roman took to the ice at the end of his wife Oksana Domnina's number.

45-year-old Kostomarov was hospitalized with pneumonia on January 10. Before that, the skater took part in a street performance in Kolomna, where he rolled out a program in a 25-degree frost. Kostomarov had a cough, to which he did not pay attention. After the show, the figure skater visited a bathhouse, after which he felt very ill.

The two-time world champion, who had previously competed in ice dancing with Dmitry Peskov's wife Tatiana Navka, was hooked up to an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine for more than five days. As a result, the athlete suffered severe damage to small vessels in his limbs and tissue necrosis.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Kostomarov expressed support for Russia's aggression from the beginning of the war. Kostomarov hypocritically stated on his Instagram that the terrorist country "never touched or attacked anyone."

Kostomarov was put on the sanctions list for supporting the war against Ukraine on December 13 last year. The corresponding decree of the Verkhovna Rada was signed by Volodymyr Zelensky on January 7.
