Russian Federation threatens UEFA with 'task set for the Russian army' after statement on return
Russian coach Valery Ovchinnikov reacted with incredible pathos to the words of the President of the European Football Union (UEFA) that teams from the Russian Federation will be allowed to participate in international tournaments only after the end of the war in Ukraine. The representative of the aggressor country called the restoration of UEFA tournaments one of the army's tasks.
Tikhonov said this in an interview with Metaratings.ru. He expressed confidence that Russian teams will return to UEFA tournaments in six months and start the new football season, adding that the Russian army will end the war in Ukraine as determined by dictator Vladimir Putin.
"The lines have been set, we will return when the special military operation (as the war in Ukraine is shamefully called in Russia - ed.) is over, right? There are two ways to return, so we need to end the special operation. The Russian president has decided how to end it. Do we just have to wait? I think so. In six months, don't worry, we will return there. Especially since the task was set for the Russian army. The UEFA president is fine, there is another military commander," Ovchinnikov said.
As a reminder, Russian clubs are suspended from the Champions League, UEFA League, and Conference League, and the national team is suspended from the qualifying tournament for the 2024 European Championship and the League of Nations.
Earlier, UEFA returned Russian representatives to its competitions by appointing a team of referees from Russia to the Women's Nations League game.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, honorary president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov reacted doom and gloom to UEFA head Aleksander Cheferin's statement about the return of Russian teams to international tournaments.
