Former Russian national team player Roman Shirokov has threatened the European Football Union (UEFA) and its members with the return of Russian teams to international tournaments. The former Spartak Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg, and CSKA Moscow defender called the aggressor country "the winner in this conflict."

Shirokov said this in an interview with Metaratings.ru. The Euro 2008 bronze medalist surprised even the journalist, who described the ex-footballer's patriotic rant as "some kind of perfect timetable" by saying that Russia would dictate the terms of its return to the competition to UEFA and determine the quota of its representatives.

Earlier, the executive committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) decided to refuse to join the Asian Confederation (ACF), complaining that no one guarantees the Russian representatives a return to international competitions. It also became known that a friendly match between Russia and Serbia would be held.
