Russia refuses to include Crimean teams in its championship

Football clubs in the temporarily occupied Crimea will not participate in competitions under the auspices of the Russian Football Union (RFU) in the new season. The aggressor country has abandoned the idea of annexation after consultations with the European Football Union (UEFA).

This was announced in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV by Russian Federation Secretary General Maxim Mitrovanov. He noted that the Russian second league championship, organised by the Football National League (FNL), is under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation, according to UEFA.

"There were no special resolutions. There was a certain position, letters concerning non-admission to the football federation, the special status of the Crimean Football Union. Which, by the way, is not legally part of the Ukrainian Football Association. This is a territory with a special football regime, from where professional clubs should not be allowed to participate in professional leagues," Mitrofanov said.

Earlier, Russia had planned to allow Sevastopol and Rubin Yalta to play in the second division of the national championship.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev complained about Ukraine to UEFA and FIFA, noting that our country has no right to demand that Russia be punished for recognising Crimean teams as part of its championship.
