Russia complains about UEFA's "intransigent position" and threatens to move to Asia

Russia is in talks with UEFA

The European Football Union (UEFA) is still not ready to soften its position on the suspension of Russian teams from competitions. At the same time, the aggressor country is allegedly negotiating admission to some tournaments, but Nyon is in no hurry to make specific decisions.

This was stated in an interview with Sport-Express by Alexey Sorokin, CEO of the 2018 World Cup Organising Committee. He complained that UEFA's position is irreconcilable and that the Russian Football Union (RFU) may return to the issue of moving to Asia.

"We are working on a detailed discussion with UEFA on which competitions we will be allowed to participate in. We are working in this direction. We will expect the results of this work and some changes in their rather intransigent position. We understand that this is a difficult issue for them, but we would like to see more. I personally believe that the issue of moving to Asia has not yet disappeared. It is quite possible to return to discussing it if it becomes clear that the current state of affairs will continue for a long time," the official said.

Earlier, RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov accused UEFA of suspending Russia from its tournaments too quickly after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Russian national football team has decided to refuse to participate in the Central Asian Confederation championship.
