Russia complained about UEFA's "categorical position" against the return of teams from Russia

Alaev talks about the situation in UEFA

The European Football Union (UEFA) is unlikely to be able to return Russian youth teams to its tournaments. Key members of the association are categorically opposed to the representatives of the aggressor country participating in competitions under the auspices of the organization again.

The president of the Russian Premier League, Alexander Alaev, complained about this in an interview with Championship.com. He repeated the traditional narratives of Kremlin propaganda about the politicization of sports and added that UEFA President Alexander Čeferin allegedly supports Russia.

"Yes, there was a decision regarding the boys. But I know the mood of individual federations. Čeferin thinks about football and children, but the position of the federations that influence UEFA is categorical. They, in turn, are under pressure from politicians. I hope that the decision regarding the boys will be implemented. But as a spectator who has an inner feeling, I realize that it will be very difficult," Alaev said.

Last September, UEFA announced the inclusion of Russian national teams in the qualifying tournaments for the European Youth Championships. After that, 12 associations announced a boycott of teams from the Russian Federation, forcing UEFA to reverse its decision.
