Real Madrid suffered a sensational defeat in the 2nd round of the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti's men lost away to modest Lille. The match ended with a score of 1-0.

Before the game, bookmakers did not believe in the success of the French, calling the royal club the clear favorites. However, from the very first minutes, Lille, spurred on by the packed Stade Pierre-Maurice, gave the titled Spaniards a real fight.

The hosts could have opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Jonathan David fired a diagonal cross into the penalty area and Andriy Lunin shot from close range. The Ukrainian goalkeeper, who was replaced by the injured Thibaut Courtois, made a spectacular save and managed to repel the shot.

Lunin saved a penalty kick

At the end of the 1st half, the ball hit Eduardo Camavinga's hand in the Real Madrid penalty area after Edon Zegrov's free kick. Referee Maurizio Mariani awarded an 11-meter penalty after watching a video replay of the episode.

In the 45th minute, Jonathan David converted the 11-meter penalty, which became the game-winner.
