"Poured strength in our country": commentator from Russian Federation attributed to Russia Ukrainian world champions

Shipov called Ponomarev and Ivanchuk Russians

Sergey Shipov, a well-known Russian commentator and chess coach, called Ukrainians Vasyl Ivanchuk and Ruslan Ponomarev "a product of the Soviet and Russian school". The representative of the aggressor country added with pathos and imperialism characteristic of Russia that the world champions "grew and poured strength in our country".

About this Shipov wrote in his Telegram-channel, commenting on why he is rooting for our compatriots. At the same time, the commentator is an ardent fan of the war in Ukraine. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) investigated him and his account was blocked on the popular portal Chess.com.

"I am constantly asked by my viewers why I am on the air so openly rooting for Ivanchuk, Ponomariov (whom they think I should hate because they represent Ukraine), and also why I am rooting for Sarana, Oparin, Fedoseev, Vitiugov, Svidler and other chess players who are already infinitely distant from Russia.... The answer is simple: these are our chess players. They are a product of the Soviet and Russian chess school. These are those who grew up and poured strength into our country," Shipov said.

Earlier, three-time world chess champion Anna Muzychuk took part in an advertising campaign for the 2024 World Rapid and Blitz Championship with Russian politician Arkady Dvorkovich.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Vasyl Ivanchuk refused to be released from Ukraine to the World Chess Cup in Azerbaijan's Baku.
