Veronika Stepanova, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in the ski relay, whose intelligence has been compared to a washing machine, has angered Russian fans with her remarks about the country's demographics. The 23-year-old athlete announced that she was skipping the new season due to pregnancy.

Commenting on her family situation, Stepanova derogatorily referred to those Russians who criticize her for this decision.

"Now a herd of idiots will be caught on their phones, commenting along the lines of 'Stepanova got pregnant after hearing Putin's call to give birth, hee hee hee'. I'm sure that the vast majority of people understand that we really have a problem, and if we don't solve it, it will become not just bad, but critically bad in a generation!" Stepanova wrote in a column on Match TV.

Users couldn't contain their emotions when commenting on the titled athlete's words.

"Stepanova got pregnant by accident by turning on the TV when Putin was speaking," "If you want to give birth, give birth. Why this stupid pathos about Putin and the birth rate?" Stepanova is just hitting rock bottom," "So far I see only one (one) who rushed to bang on the screen about why she got pregnant," users mock.

Earlier, Stepanova was outraged by the trip of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympics. The champion of the Beijing 2022 Games in the relay team criticized her compatriots for agreeing to allegedly unfair conditions of admission and was immediately ridiculed online.
