The organization was given 60 days of probation to rectify the situation

The Russian Chess Federation (RСF) has been expelled from the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for two years, according to Danish grandmaster and coach of world champion Magnus Carlsen. According to Peter Heine Nielsen, the FIDE Ethics Commission found the Russian Federation and RСF President Arkady Dvorkovich guilty in a case filed by the Ukrainian Chess Federation (UCF).

"The RСF had contacts with sanctioned persons, organized chess events in the occupied territories of Crimea, the 'DPR', 'LPR' and Kherson region, and failed to observe political neutrality," the document says, part of which was published by Nielsen on X.

At the same time, FIDE gave the Russians two months to fix all the violations. If the Russian Federation fixes everything, the punishment will be suspended and replaced with a three-year probationary period.

"During the period of suspension, the member federation is deprived of its rights under Article 10, its officials and national teams may not participate in any FIDE congresses, competitions, events or activities. Players, referees and coaches may still participate in individual competitions and other events under their national flag or under the FIDE flag, unless otherwise decided by the Council or the General Assembly," the text says.

In September 23, Ukrainian grandmaster Andriy Barishpolets and Nielsen himself, along with the FIDE, filed a lawsuit against Dvorkovich and the Swiss Federal Government.

As a reminder, starting from March 2022, the Council of the International Chess Federation has suspended the teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments held under the auspices of the organization. However, the Russians and Belarusians have the right to compete in individual competitions under the FIDE flag.
