Norwegian biathlon vice-champion found dead

Silver medalist in the Norwegian Junior Championships Biathlon 2021 Eivind Sporaland was found dead in the mountains near Lillehammer in an area called Balbergkampen, reports ski-nordique.net. The body of the 22-year-old athlete was found by a hiker walking in the vicinity.

"We found a dead man wearing a blue jacket and red shoes. We can't say 100% that it's Eivind Sporaland until we do an autopsy, but we have every reason to believe it's him," said a police spokesman.

According to the inspector, the death was not violent.

Eivind Sporaland, a former member of the Lillehammer Club, also called the Factory of Champions, went missing on March 19. Since then, a long search has only resulted in the discovery of his car and smartphone.

A few days after his disappearance, it became known that Sporland was struggling with mental health problems. His friends had intended to go to the hospital with him two days earlier, but eventually postponed the visit.
