Lionel Messi leaves PSG

Lionel Messi, the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion, will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this season. The star Argentine striker will play his last match for his current team on 3 June in the national championship against Clermont.

This was announced by PSG head coach Christophe Galtier, Reuters reports. At a press conference before the final match of the season, the Parisian coach noted that he was proud of his work with the legendary Argentine, who will now become a free agent.

"I have been privileged to coach the best player in football history. Saturday will be his last match at the Parc des Princes and I hope he gets the warmest welcome. He has been an important part of the team this year. I don't think we can justify any critical comments about him. He was always there for the team. It was a great honour for me to accompany him throughout the season," said Galtier.

Messi joined PSG from Barcelona in the summer of 2021, signing a two-year contract. During this time, he played 74 matches for the French in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 35 assists.

According to media reports, Messi may return to his home club. However, there is a high probability that Lionel will sign a contract with Saudi Arabian Al Hilal for a total of €1.2 billion.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Lionel Messi was suspended from training with the PSG squad after travelling to Saudi Arabia without the club's permission.
