"It doesn't concern us": ex-Russian national team player said he was ready to fight against Ukraine, but was afraid of the summons

Former Russian national football player Sergei Grishin has said that Russia's criminal war against Ukraine "does not concern us, ordinary citizens." The former player of Moscow's Torpedo and Dynamo, as well as Yaroslavl's Shinnik, expressed his readiness to take up arms and kill Ukrainians, but did not appear at the military commissariat when summoned.

Grishin said this in an interview with Sport24. The former midfielder, who scored one goal for the aggressor country's national team, noted that the war against Ukraine is being waged by "trained people," forgetting to specify the enormous losses of the Russian Armed Forces.

"If someone came to me and told me that my homeland needed me, I would certainly go. Who wouldn't go for their homeland? But this does not concern us, ordinary citizens, because there are trained people. One day I opened the door to my apartment and there was a summons on the doorstep. It reads: "Report to the military registration and enlistment office at 9 am". Well, how could I report at 9 am if it was almost noon? I put the letter in the mailbox and went on walking the dog. What should I have done? Call them myself: "Hello, did you call me?" Of course not. That was the end of it, no one came to see me anymore," Grishin said.

Earlier, the host of the propaganda TV channel Match TV Anton Anisimov called for sanctions against Russian national team striker Fyodor Smolov, who spoke out against the war in Ukraine.
