Olha Kharlan, the most titled athlete in the history of Ukraine, posted photos of her engagement to Italian fencer Luigi Samele. On her Instagram, the 34-year-old champion published the footage taken by a passerby, telling about a funny moment that happened to her at that time.
"I was so shocked that I forgot to say yes! He reminded me that I had to say something. By the way, he took my bag from me and walked around with it all evening because it had a ring in it," Kharlan captioned the photos.
Kharlan and Samele decided to formalize their relationship, which they have been in since 2018.
The couple started dating when Olha was in the process of divorcing her first husband, fencer Dmytro Boiko. The couple was unable to maintain their relationship due to constant separation.
After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Luigi helped Olha get her sister and nephew out of the area of missile attacks and shelling.
