"I just didn't understand": Maguchikh is outraged by hate from Ukrainians before the 2024 Olympics
Olympic champion Yaroslava Maguchikh admitted that she faced an incomprehensible hate after her performance at the 2024 World Indoor Championships. Fans were disappointed with the athlete's silver medal on the eve of the Games in Paris and attacked her with negative comments.
Maguchikh spoke about this in an interview with the Champion portal. The 23-year-old athlete, who became a world record holder in the high jump, was outraged by the fans' attitude, as they simply leveled her achievements and the value of the award - the vice-championship on the planet.
"People wrote: "What will happen at the Olympics if we get silver now?". I just didn't understand when silver became a medal for us. It was as if I hadn't even jumped in the final, I had failed the qualification. Sometimes, emotionally, you can't cope with everything that happens in life - you break down a little bit. But this is just one moment. For example, back in Glasgow, Nicola Olislagers was stronger, more psychologically prepared, and I was not. We prepared better, analyzed everything. You know what happened next," Maguchikh said.
The day before, Yaroslava was named the best athlete of the year in non-running disciplines by the international federation World Athletics.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Yaroslava Maguchikh called her main goal to break the record of a Russian athlete at the Olympic Games.
