"I don't understand. Why?" Rebrov was surprised by the fans of the Ukrainian national team
Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Serhiy Rebrov was not surprised that his team faced serious difficulties in the match against Malta in the 2024 European Championship qualifiers. The Blue and Yellows coach stressed that his team played their third game in the last 10 days, and the opponent defended well.
Rebrov said this at a press conference after the match in Trnava. The 49-year-old admitted that he was pleased with the players' reaction to a serious conversation during half-time. He also expressed disagreement with the fact that many fans of the Ukrainian national team considered the Maltese to be a weak opponent.
"It's hard to play three games in 10 days. We knew it would be a tough game. Just like with North Macedonia, we looked confident in the second half. It was important to take three points and move on. It is difficult for us to play against such teams because they have a very compact defence. They spent a lot of energy in the first half. It was good that we created chances in the second half. Yes, I agree that we should have scored more. I know that everyone in Ukraine was expecting 5-0, 6-0, but now everyone has learnt to defend. Yes, England won 4-0, but they scored a quick goal. I am not surprised that it was a tough game. I don't understand why everyone in Ukraine thinks that we should beat everyone 3-4-0. Why?" - Rebrov said.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian national team beat Malta 1-0 thanks to a penalty goal by Viktor Tsygankov. Prior to that, on 16 June, Rebrov's men made a comeback in the game against North Macedonia.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Russia expressed its admiration for the victory of Ukrainians over North Macedonia in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
