FIFA president answered whether Russia will participate in the 2026 World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino refused to answer unequivocally whether the Russian national team will participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For the first time in history, the 23rd World Cup will be held simultaneously in the three countries of Mexico, Canada and the United States from June 11 to July 19.

"We'll see," said the head of the International Football Federation in a press conference during the UN General Assembly.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have suspended the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from participating in FIFA and UEFA competitions after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

This year, Valery Karpov's team was able to play only four friendly matches against Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Qatar. The Russianas played against the Qataris on September 12, escaping humiliation in the last seconds.

The Russian national team played its last official match in the fall of 2021. The Russians lost to Croatia (0: 1) in the last round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Earlier, the President of the European Football Union (UEFA) Alexander Čeferin said that Russian national teams will not play in any tournament under the auspices of UEFA while the Russian army contiues to perform military actions in Ukraine.
