Father of European gymnastics champion was killed in battle with Russian invaders

The father of European champion gymnast Anastasiia Bachynska was killed in the war with Russia. The 19-year-old native of Ternopil posted about the tragedy on her Instagram.

"The war took away my father Yurii as well. It is simply impossible to believe. He was the best dad, friend, and example for me. I miss and love my dad very much. I know you are in a better place now. May you rest in peace! A hero for the ages!" - Bachynska wrote.

In 2020, Bachynska won the European Championships in the team event. In 2019, she won the European Games in Minsk (floor exercise). She is a two-time bronze medallist at the Youth Olympic Games.

Anastasiia grew up in a large family. Her elder brother is a programmer, her younger brother Liubomyr is a musician who plays the piano, and her younger sister Solomiia is an artist.
