Dmytro Karyaka died in Odesa

Famous Ukrainian footballer Dmytro Karyaka died at the age of 45 in Odesa. According to journalist and author Leonid Franceskevich on Facebook, the Metalurh Zaporizhzhia player had been battling a serious illness for two years. In 2021, he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The heyday of Karyaka's professional career, who played as a midfielder, was in 1995-2000, when he played for the Zaporizhzhia club Viktor, which existed in 1992-2000. Then Dmytro moved to Odesa-based Chornomorets.

The footballer has won silver (1998/99) and bronze (2001/02) in the First League. He played 62 games in the Premier League, scoring 5 goals, 65 games in the First League, 1 goal, and 123 games in the Second League, 11 goals. Between 2001 and 2005, he made 93 appearances for Obolon Kyiv, scoring two goals.
