Famous Russian tennis player who came to the Czech Republic for a tournament was expelled from the country

A Russian tennis player, whose name was not initially disclosed, has been deported from the Czech Republic. According to the Czech Ministry of the Interior, the athlete, who arrived for the WTA Prague Open tournament (31 July - 5 August), was not allowed to go further than customs.

"During the inspection of the Russian citizen at the airport, she was ordered to leave the country. She has already left the Czech Republic. According to available information, other tennis players from Russia and Belarus will not come. The police are acting in accordance with the laws and regulations of the government," the Czech Interior Ministry said on Twitter.

Later, propagandists from RIA Novosti said that this tennis player was Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, in late June, the Czech Cabinet of Ministers, agreeing with the proposal of the National Sports Agency, passed a resolution according to which Russian athletes in team and individual sports will not be able to participate in competitions in the country.

The Women's Tennis Association was outraged by the Czech authorities' action.

"The WTA rules state that all players should be allowed to participate in WTA competitions on the basis of merit alone, without discrimination," the WTA said on Twitter.
