Former Ukraine youth national team player Yehor Kartushov returned to Chernihiv with his family after the 2022/23 season. The 32-year-old midfielder came to his home stadium named after Yuriy Gagarin. Yuriy Gagarin Stadium, where he played for Desna for 10 years (2012-2022).

On March 11, the stadium was bombed by Russian troops. For the native of Saky, it was his first visit to Chernihiv since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Seeing what the occupiers had done to his home stadium, Kartushov could not contain his emotions.

"It is very painful to look at these ruins, at this field where we played such important and memorable matches. We entered the UPL by defeating Zirka, took points from Shakhtar and defeated Dynamo... I believe that Ukraine's crushing victory over the occupiers and the collapse of Russia will be the best revenge for everything these bastards have done to our city and country!" the Desna press service quoted Yehor as saying.
