"End of career?" Russian rival Maguchikh fails at the "alternative to the Olympics"

The titled Russian took only third place

While Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchikh won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, her main Russian rival Maria Lasitskene (née Kuchina) failed at the New Height tournament in Moscow. The 31-year-old Tokyo 2020 champion took third place with a score of 1.88 meters, behind Maria Kochanova and Daria Slepova.

"I didn't want to bury myself in the responsibility of having to win today, to put myself through unnecessary brainwashing. I came to jump at the start, which is called Nova Vysota, and that's all. I came as an athlete, trying to show a good result," Lasitskene commented on Match TV.
