Famous American super heavyweight Kevin Johnson decided to change his name in honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Johnson will meet Russian Mark Petrovsky in the ring at the REN TV Fight Club Super Series tournament on August 18.

"I decided to change my name to give the greatest compliment to President Vladimir Putin. I will now be called Kevin Vladimirovich. Now I'm 100% Russian, jokes aside. I am 100% Russian," the boxer said in an interview with Russian propagandists.

Johnson, 43, defeated Vyacheslav Datsik at the REN TV Fight Club tournament on April 1 and asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to grant him Russian citizenship.

Johnson fought current Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko for the WBC world title held by the Ukrainian in December 2009. The fight lasted 12 rounds and ended with Vitaly Klitschko winning on points (120:110, 120:110, 119:111).

Klitschko defeated Johnson

Johnson faced our other super featherweight in August 2022. Unbeaten Ukrainian Ihor Shevadzutsky (10-0, 8 KOs) defeated Johnson on points at a boxing night in Hamburg.
