Former Crimean chess player received unexpected comments

World Rapid Chess Champion (Astana, 2012) and World Blitz Champion (Doha, 2016) Sergey Karyakin, who changed his citizenship from Ukrainian to Russian in 2009, has become a confidant of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in the 2024 Russian presidential election. The 33-year-old native of Simferopol was included in the list of people who supported Putin's nomination.

"Right now, the people's support for our leader is manifested both among the people and famous people from different fields of activity. Vladimir Vladimirovich is the best. He is the only one who can unite all people," Karyakin said, causing a strong reaction online.

Russian fans ridiculed the ex-chess player's act.

"There is no limit to human disgust," "Deeper, Karyaka, deeper," "Whoever swears the most at liberals, licks Vadimich the most. This is a classic," users write.

Karyakin is being insulted in the comments for such humiliation in front of a dictator.

The fans are also moved by the grandmaster's words, noting that Putin has indeed been able to unite people, but only against himself.
