"This is a regular practice": the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the revision of restrictions on certain human rights

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine explained the situation with the review of restrictions on certain human rights. It noted that since 2015, our country has regularly informed international organizations about derogations from its obligations to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.

This is stated in a commentary by the Foreign Ministry's press service, which was published on the ministry's website. It began in connection with Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine periodically and regularly sends to international organizations information prepared by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on derogations from obligations under the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights," the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry has continued to do so since February 2022, when Russia's full-scale invasion began and martial law was imposed in Ukraine.

"The information is provided on a regular basis after the extension of martial law in Ukraine. In April 2024, Ukraine once again clarified the list of existing restrictions and reduced it," the statement said.

This information was the twentieth since 2015, the ministry noted.

- The Ukrainian authorities have filed an application with the Council of Europe for a temporary partial derogation from the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms. It concerns restrictions on freedom of movement of citizens, search of belongings and compulsory seizure of property for the needs of the state under martial law.

- After this news was actively discussed online, Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska explained that all countries at war do this. And in April 2024, the Ukrainian government once again clarified the list of existing restrictions and reduced it.
