Ukrainians have the worst attitude towards Russians and Belarusians

The lowest level of ethnic prejudice in Ukraine was recorded against Ukrainians and Poles, while Ukrainians have the worst attitudes toward residents of the aggressor state of Russia and residents of Belarus. At the same time, the attitude of Ukrainians toward Russian-speaking Ukrainians has worsened.

This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology. 80% of Ukrainians who took part in the survey said they would not allow Russians to enter Ukraine even as tourists.

Thus, Ukrainians were asked how close they were willing to be with representatives of different ethnic groups. The minimum social distance is 1 (I agree to allow them as a family member), the maximum is 7 (I would not allow them to enter Ukraine).

The survey showed that respondents had the best attitude toward Ukrainian-speaking Ukrainians, followed by Poles, Russian-speaking Ukrainians, Canadians, and Americans. Respondents had slightly worse attitudes toward French and Jewish residents of Ukraine.

Africans, Roma, Russians living in Ukraine, and Belarusians living in Ukraine are in the penultimate place. Ukrainians have the worst attitude towards Russians living in Russia. 80% of respondents said they would not allow them to enter Ukraine even as tourists.

As noted in the institution, from 2021 to 2022, the level of xenophobia increased slightly due to worsening attitudes toward Russians and Belarusians, and over the past year it has slightly decreased due to improved attitudes toward allies (Canadians, Americans, Germans, and French).
