Microcurrent RF lifting: benefits and unpleasant surprises that patients may encounter

Today, we will discuss the microneedle RF lifting procedure, exploring its origins, its potential benefits or risks, and examining all the potential pitfalls and surprises that patients might encounter during the process.

Single Session or a Series of Treatments

First and foremost, it's important to note that the microneedle RF lifting procedure typically involves a series of treatments. I recommend undergoing 4-5 sessions. Initially, these sessions should be spaced two weeks apart, after which you can transition to having one session every three weeks. If you are not prepared to commit to a full course of treatment, it's best not to start the procedure, as the results from a single session are likely to be minimal, even though the procedure itself is highly effective.

One of the risks associated with visiting cosmetologists and beauty salons of questionable quality is their tendency to promise significant results from a single procedure to retain clients. We will discuss why this can be dangerous a bit later.

Historical Background

Many years ago, a procedure known as the mesoroller was introduced. This device consisted of a roller with attached needles that a beautician would roll across the client's skin. The needles on the roller would create micro-punctures in the skin, promoting skin regeneration. This procedure could be likened to a workout for the skin.

Subsequently, the procedures of mesoperforation and microneedle mesotherapy were developed. These methods involved the use of a special pen with a rotor to which needles were attached. The rotor created specific back-and-forth movements, resulting in micro-punctures. One key advantage of these procedures over the mesoroller was that they allowed the specialist to control the depth of needle penetration. While these procedures are still available and have some effect, they are notably less effective than a full-fledged microneedle RF lifting procedure.

Traditional RF Lifting

Conventional RF lifting involves heating the skin with a magnetic field. This heat causes proteins in the skin to "contract," resulting in a perceived lifting effect. However, over time, this procedure lost popularity because the epidermis, the outermost layer of human skin, posed an obstacle to the penetration of the magnetic field to the deeper collagen fiber layers. Consequently, it became challenging for specialists to determine the right level of power for the device. Low power rendered the procedure ineffective, while high power could lead to burns, a problem that frequently occurred.

Microneedle RF Lifting

The microneedle RF lifting procedure combines microneedle mesotherapy and RF lifting. It involves the controlled insertion of needles into the skin's surface, followed by the creation of a brief (ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 seconds) magnetic field between the needles. This controlled puncturing leads to improved skin texture and affects deeper skin layers, resulting in a rejuvenating effect.

Indications for the Procedure

I recommend undergoing a course of microneedle RF-lifting for the following conditions:

  • Age-related skin changes.
  • Deterioration of skin quality, particularly in the neck and décolleté area.
  • Post-acne skin concerns.
  • Reduced skin turgor.
  • Preventing age-related changes for younger individuals.

The procedure's effectiveness can be enhanced by combining it with mesotherapy or plasmolifting.

How to Ensure Safety

With the increasing demand for microneedle RF lifting procedures, many individuals who label themselves as beauticians and numerous beauty salons have started offering it. Unfortunately, equipment of questionable quality is frequently used.

To achieve lasting results and avoid adverse reactions, I strongly recommend undergoing the procedure only with equipment from reputable global brands and in the hands of an experienced specialist.

As previously mentioned, this procedure involves a course of treatments, and you should be cautious of promises of an "unparalleled effect" after a single session.

The key to a successful procedure lies in the proper selection of parameters, such as RF power, needle length, and the duration of the magnetic field. Utilizing the highest device parameters in pursuit of a swift outcome can lead to truly "unparalleled" results, including burns and, in some cases, even scars.

The course should involve a gradual increase in parameters, determined individually for each patient. Maintaining consistent communication between the patient and the doctor is crucial to ensure the procedure is performed correctly.

In most cases, the first noticeable results become apparent about a week after the second procedure, with the maximum effect typically observed after 4-5 sessions.

When seeking beauty treatments, avoid chasing instant results or opting for the lowest price. Always verify the medical license of the facility and the specialist's credentials, including both medical qualifications and course certificates. Remember that achieving lasting results is often more challenging than losing them.

Wishing you health, beauty, and happiness!
